Kids love to help and the holiday season is a perfect time to let them help you while creating wonderful memories. Here are some things you can have the kids help you with this year as you prepare for the holidays.
Preparing the meal
From pulling apart the bread for stuffing to mixing and pouring the pies, my son loves to help prepare for holiday dinners. Younger children love to help crack eggs and mix ingredients; just remember to have them stay back from the oven and let them know when you are pulling out the hot pans. My sister and I have been helping prepare the holiday meals since we could walk; it has turned into a great tradition that I have passed onto my son.
Decorating the House
My son LOVES to help decorate the house; we have several wall hangings for each holiday that he gets to hang up. We will lay everything out of the table for him and he will pick though the decorations and take them one at a time around the house to find the perfect spots. After thanksgiving we start to decorate for Christmas, he gets to decorate the bottom of the half and I take care of the top. When it comes to the outside decorations, he will help me stretch out and untangle lights while my husband strings them on the house and trees.
Making Crafts
A great way to create memories with your children during the holidays is to make crafts with them, particularly ones that will involve their hand or foot prints so that you have things that show how they have grown over the years. My favorite craft I have made with my son was during his first Halloween we painted his bottom and make a “Bumpkin” on a plate.
Let them Pick Activities
We love to play games during holidays, it’s a great way to pass time and bond. BUT there is a 17 year difference between my son, the youngest person currently, and the next youngest person in my immediate family, so we like to let him pick games and activities to keep him involved in the fun.
Let us know what activities you like to do with your kids during holidays.
